APO DOUBLES UP ITS VOLUNTEERING EFFORTS

Over the past year, The Call KC has partnered with the Alpha Eta Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega at the University of Missouri- Kansas City to aid them in their mission to serve others. Founded on the principles of the Boy Scouts of America, Alpha Phi Omega is a National Service Fraternity with more than 17,000 male and female members at 358 college campuses nationwide. Together, they strive to develop leadership, promote friendship and provide service to humanity.

On April 17, members of Alpha Phi Omega volunteered at the 34th Annual Gillis Spirit Awards, which honor individuals in the community who exemplify the spirit of Kansas City. Since 1870,Gillis has been dedicated to helping at-risk children and families reach their full potential through education, counseling and social services. Volunteers from Alpha Phi Omega helped check in guests and pass out gifts to donors all while being afforded the opportunity to visit with some of Kansas City’s brightest and most philanthropic leaders.

Alpha Phi Omega plans to start sending volunteers to the Gillis on a regular basis next semester.

On April 18, volunteers from Alpha Phi Omega set out yet again to serve the community. This time, they volunteered at the Garmin Marathon in Olathe, Kan. Volunteers arrived at seven a.m. and worked until noon monitoring the course for race participants. Although the weather was not ideal, they stuck it out, once again proving their dedication to service.

We hope to continue to work with Alpha Phi Omega as they begin planning their next semester of service events.
