SOCKTOBER: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

What started as a simple retweet just a month ago turned into one of our biggest accomplishments yet as an organization.

Thanks to inspiration from Kid President and hundreds of caring people in the Kansas City area, we were able to collect over 1,200 pieces of clothing throughout the month of October. With the exact number reaching 1,254, including 558 new pairs of socks, our first annual Socktober Clothes Drive was a huge success.

From men’s jeans to women’s dresses to children coats, we had an outpouring of donations. The collections were delivered to a trio of homeless organizations located in downtown Kansas City:City Union Mission Morning Glory Ministries and The Sheffield Place.  And because of the effort, not only will the needy receive fresh, clean clothes — but lives will be saved.

Winter’s bitterness is nearly upon us and many of the less fortunate are preparing to brave it with the ragged shirts that hang on their backs. Now, thanks to the kindness of our volunteers as well as the church-wide donation from Northland Cathedral, they have hope for a warmer tomorrow — both figuratively and literally.

From all of us here at The Call – Kansas City, thanks again to everyone who helped make October officially Socktober in 2013.
