UP, UP AND AWAY — IF YOU CAN

It’s not too often you get to see an army of gigantic hot air balloons invade the breezy blue skies above of our own Midwest homes. But this Saturday, you can do just that, plus help a great cause at the same time.

In one of the more family-friendly outings of the year, we are sending six volunteers to assist the Newhouse staff this weekend at the great Midwest Balloon Festival. The three-day long event will be held at the Kansas Speedway.

Our shift lasts from 6:30-10 p.m. Saturday evening, where volunteers will supervise the inflatable jungle gyms for the domestic violence center. Money raised from this outing will go towards helping the shelter’s battered and abused women and children programs.

An added perk, besides seeing the massive blimps up close and personal, is the fact that all volunteers will receive free admission and parking to the festival. Thus, it’s a perfect service outing for the entire family. Simply head out early, enjoy the many activities available during the afternoon and then help support one of our great local charities at night.

Heck, bring some extra cash you and the kids could even ride up in your favorite hot air balloon. Interested? Follow this link for complete details and to sign-up for one of the limited volunteer spots.
