Neighborhood Association will host Healthier Halloween event

WRITTEN BY LAUREN COCKRELL

Candy season is here. For many, Halloween and trick-o-treating conjures up fond memories of dressing up as goblins and ghouls to collect goodies from neighbors. However, for children facing health concerns, there are other ways to celebrate this holiday.

The Rosedale Development Center is hosting an event called Healthier Halloween. The event is offered through Rosedale Healthy Kids (RHK), which is a community effort to reduce childhood obesity in the neighborhood by promoting healthy, active lifestyles to all residents.

The 6th Annual Healthy Halloween will be held Saturday, Oct. 24 from 2-5 p.m. at Whitmore Park, located at 1412 Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City, Kan. Children will have an opportunity to participate in fun and safe activities, as well as make their own healthy treats and snacks.

Some of the fun activities include a costume closet and photo booth, bean bag toss, face painting, ghost races, pumpkin decorating, a bouncy house and much more. The Rosedale Development Center is looking for volunteers to help set up, tear down and supervise the activities.

Volunteers need to be there from 1-6 p.m., as well as attend an one-hour orientation before the event. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. If you are interested, contact us at [email protected] to volunteer.
