Shop Local, Give Local retail line launched to support KC charities

We hear it all the time — shop local. As a consumer, there’s value in knowing where your money is spent, especially when it goes towards businesses or people you care about.

But what if you could shop and then pick directly where you wanted the profits of your purchase to end up?

With that in mind, The Call KC is excited to launch our newest retail line — Shop Local, Give Local. With every shirt purchased, $10 covers wholesale costs, $5 covers operational costs, and the remaining $15 goes to the cause or non-profit of your choice. Not only are you buying a trendy, new shirt that promotes volunteerism in local communities, you’re actively giving back to them at the same time.

“We all strive to be selfless and this retail line is a way to do so,” project developer Isabelle Shaw said. “It provides an opportunity for people to show their true selves by supporting their personal passions or causes, even while shopping.”

For the first release, local designer Brendan Barlow wanted to combine an iconic Kansas City image with a message that caused people to stop and think. He did that by fusing the famous shuttlecocks at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, a staple among KC tradition, with the message ‘volunteer local’. The result is a conversation that promotes community service and city pride.

The shirt is one of three original designs, with the other two coming later this year. In the future, we plan to expand our products to include a variety of items, all produced by local designers and businesses. We’re also working on partnerships with local organizations to create merchandise that will more directly represent their cause, charity or community event, as well as businesses and resellers to help facilitate those efforts.

“For me, the beauty of this retail line is that it allows a person to give back in so many different ways,” The Call KC co-founder and president Brent Lager said. “From financially supporting local organizations to providing awareness for charitable causes to repping this amazing city we call home, it’s clothing that has meaning.”

Trends come and go, however, the value in knowing where your money goes is constant. Buy a T-shirt today and join us as we use social entrepreneurship to give back to our Kansas City community.
