After last year's record-setting drive of 8,848 pairs, we we're hoping to hit the 10,000 mark in 2017. Thanks to the 74 groups and individuals that participated this year, we we're able to zoom past that mark for the first time ever.
Did you know socks are the most needed item among homeless shelters? In order to help combat this common problem, Uncover KC is excited to announce that we will be running our annual Socktober campaign for the fifth consecutive year.
You can feel it in the air, that crisp greeting of fall. A season full of pumpkins, warm drinks and cozy nights – but for some it’s got a darker side. On any given night, over half a million people are experiencing homelessness in the United States. Are you ready to make a difference this season? Socktober is a great way to start.
Because of you, hundreds of homeless in Kansas City will have new pairs of socks for the winter — and we mean hundreds.
After tallying up the results from our monthlong Socktober drive, the numbers blew us away. 687 new pairs of socks were donated last month, crushing our 2013 record of 558. On top of that we had five coats, two blankets, six pieces of clothing and two new pairs of shoes donated, giving a total of 702 total donations for Socktober 2015!
Thank you so much to everyone who participated, from individuals and families to the various businesses and organizations. A special thanks to the groups below that held Socktober specific drives over the last four weeks. Again, this would not had been possible if not for your kindness, as well as all our donors.
VinSolutions — 261 pairs
McCrite Plaza — 169 pairs plus two blankets and two pairs of shoes
Kansas City Power & Light — 36 pairs

There's nearly 3.5 million homeless people currently in the United States. That means thousands upon thousands of Americans sleeping in parks, cars or wherever else they can find shelter.
With winter on the horizon, most of these individuals and families — including children — will have to bare the coming months outside in the cold. While the majority of us have heated homes, these less fortunate are just trying to find a place to survive the night. It can be the difference between life or death.
For that reason, The Call Kansas City is proud to announce it'll be holding its annual Socktober campaign for the third straight year.
Inspired by Kid President, we'll be collecting packages of new socks throughout the month of October to donate to local homeless shelters in downtown Kansas City. Over the last two years, we've collected and donated over 600 pairs of new socks plus 1,200 items of clothing to charities such as City Union Mission, ReStart, Morning Glory Cafe and more. While these donations alone won't stop homeless, they may just help save a life — or more — this winter.
So the next time you're at the store, grab a package of new socks and contact us at email@example.com to arrange a pick-up date — it's that easy! Also, if you'd like to orchestrate a sock drive through your work, school or church, please let us know. This is a great and easy way to get everyone involved. Happy Socktober!
