Aaron Likens to bring laughter, tears and hope
WRITTEN BY HEATHER LANGE
Imagine after two decades of living, you receive the labels ‘Asperger’s Syndrome’ along with ‘Disabled.’
It may have been questioned before, but to finally be diagnosed and have those labels carries a lot of weight. How will it affect life? How will people react? What unique challenges will it present?
At the age of 20, Aaron Likens experienced that very thing when he was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism. Through triumphs and troubles, Likens learned to find his way during a complicated time, detailing it all in his memior ‘Finding Kansas – Living and Decoding Asperger’s Syndrome‘.
As an autism ambassador for Easter Seals Midwest, Likens will share that story first-hand. Come experience it for yourself on Wednesday, Oct. 7 from 6-8 p.m. at the Easter Seals Midwest offices on 1508 NW Vivion Road. This free event is open to the public, so RSVP with Casey Cyr at [email protected] or 816-891-2930 to reserve a seat.
