RDA CALLS ON VOLUNTEERS TO HONOR MLK, JR.
WRITTEN BY LAUREN FRECHIN
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is right around the corner. To honor the Civil Rights activist, humanitarian and leader, Rosedale Development Association (RDA) is calling on volunteers to read stories about civil rights and social justice to students in Rosedale as part of its Reading Inspirational Stories to Empower (RISE) program, Jan. 19-22.
This special program, which takes place every year during the week of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, helps connect students and community members through stories and creative literature. The goal of RISE is to engage children in our past and present milestones in order to create a better future.
RISE volunteers are required to attend a training session from 6-8 p.m. on January 14, at 1401 Southwest Blvd. in Kansas City, KS. The training includes guest speakers that will help volunteers prepare for discussions with students the following week. Dinner will also be provided.
Join the RISE team and promote the power of literacy to school-aged children. To be a part of the movement, please contact[email protected].
