Center for Developmentally Disabled Befriending Buddy Program

Center for Developmentally Disabled, in partnership with Befriending Networks, offers a meaningful volunteer opportunity focused on building one-on-one connections. As a Befriender, you’ll be matched with an individual we support based on shared interests and location, fostering a friendship over at least six months.

Befrienders connect with their match at least twice a month—once in person and once through a call, email, or letter. Activities are flexible and decided together. Research shows befriending improves mental health, social skills, and communication for both participants.

Volunteers must complete an orientation, background check, and required trainings. A matchmaking survey is also part of the onboarding process.
