Scraps KC Holding Supplies Drive for Teachers

This summer, you can become a hero by supporting Scraps KC, a local nonprofit dedicated to caring for Kansas City’s environment, education and hungry through creative reuse. Each year, Scraps KC provides teachers school supplies for their classroom by collecting over 8,000 pounds of repurposed items.

This year, due to COVID-19, they have been unable to collect enough donations to give away for the upcoming school year. Check out how you can get involved and become a hero for educators this summer below.

How to become a Hero

  1. Clean out closets, backpacks, and drawers. Donate found school supplies to Scraps KC.

  2. Get your kids involved and have them reach out to neighbors and friends for their unwanted school supplies. (Create flyers. Staple them to bags. Leave a bag on your neighbors’ porches. Pick up the bag the following week. Deliver to Scraps KC.)

  3. Back in the office? Have a collection at work. Scraps KC will pick them up at your location.

  4. List your house as a collection site on the Nextdoor app.

  5. Reach out to your PTO and Scraps KC will bring their truck out for a trunk-to-truck collection at your school.

  6. Donate to Scraps KC and they will purchase supplies with your donation!
