UKC Now Hiring: Programming Director

Organization Summary: Formed in April 2013 by two friends searching for genuine impact, Uncover KC (UKC) has held the same mantra since its beginning — create positive social impact through community engagement. That mission has led to over 50,000 volunteers completing more than 108,000 service hours, which has provided hundreds of Kansas City nonprofits over $2.7 million in valued impact.

This effort has been accomplished by establishing unique, creative connections with people and organizations to facilitate volunteerism (volunteer connection services and management consulting), education (youth, adult and court programs) and events (community organizing and social).

Position Summary: For this multi-site and multi-program organization, the Programming Director has an externally facing role that manages programming efforts and client relationships in the community. There also is a heavy emphasis on project management, community organizing and establishing standards of performance across all programs and services provided.

Job Type: Independent Contractor

Compensation Range: $1,500 per month for 60 hours of work per month (15 hours per week)

Responsibilities:

Discovery Education Program

  • Manage/update overall programming schedule in a timely manner.

  • Create Trello boards & awareness handouts for clients.

  • Hold monthly or bi-monthly meetings with program clients to ensure standards of performance are met.

  • Schedule and facilitate guest speakers for clients.

  • Schedule and manage logistics for service projects and outings.

  • Administer pre- and post-program intro sessions including surveys.

  • Complete programming metrics.

Corporate Cares Program

  • Manage/update overall programming schedule in a timely manner.

  • Hold monthly or bi-monthly meetings with program clients to ensure standards of performance are met.

  • Schedule and facilitate guest speakers for clients.

  • Schedule and manage logistics for service projects and outings.

  • Complete programming metrics.

Volunteer Management & Community Organizing

  • Lead orientations and relationship-building efforts for clients.

  • Help manage client or project communications.

  • Update software processes and applications for clients or projects that need it.

  • Work with UKC president to meet client needs.

Qualifications & Characteristics:

  • High school diploma or AA required; BA or higher preferred.

  • 1-3 years of experience in nonprofits, social services or communications required; community organizing or education experience highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in social media platforms and Google Apps such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Hangouts, etc.

  • Knowledgeable of Collective Impact and other community organizing models helpful.

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Self-motivated individual with creative problem-solving skills; detail-oriented and task-focused.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.

  • Displays good judgment, takes initiative and is eager to learn as much as to teach.

  • Responsive to direction and feedback; comfortable working in a collaborative environment.

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for UKC’s mission.

Work Environment:

  • This position operates primarily in a professional, collaborative office environment that is fully accessible. Due to the pandemic, most work is now virtual, with select dates in the office.

  • This role uses standard office equipment (e.g. computers, phones, copiers, scanners).

  • The position is required to talk, hear, stand and walk, and to handle, feel and reach.

Work Schedule and Benefits:

  • 15 hours of work per week; 60 total per month.

  • $1,500 per month compensation.

  • The office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. though most work is currently completed remotely.

  • Occasional early morning or evening work, as well as occasional travel in the Kansas City region.
