The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens span 300 acres and contains over 1,700 species of plants across its beautiful gardens, hiking trails and open prairie. From the Monet Garden to the International Sculpture Trail, there are educational opportunities around every bend in the path. The Arboretum also offers guided tours and volunteer opportunities for school groups.
The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures (T/m) contains one of the world’s largest displays of historical toys and fine-scale miniatures. Toys reveal society’s cultural expectations, technological achievements, and the dreams of generations of children from the 1700s to the present. T/m provides a fun and immersive environment for students to dive into history.
In 1920, a group of Midwestern baseball team owners gathered at the Paseo YMCA in Kansas City, MO and decided to form the Negro National League. The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum chronicles this amazing history and explores the legacy of Black Americans in baseball. The NLBM also offers a number of virtual exhibitions and online video series, so the learning can extend beyond a field trip.
As the state’s first contemporary art museum, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art boasts a robust and growing collection of modern art from around the world. The Kemper presents their collection on a rotating basis and hosts a number of special collections throughout the year. They offer participatory tours and creative engagement activities for students of all ages.
