Learning Club
Since 2002, Learning Club has provided a positive, pivotal education experience for the children in Kansas City who need it most. The majority of Learning Club Students live in public housing communities where the annual median income is less than $14,000. They know that kids can’t learn when their basic needs aren’t being met – so they try to remove as many barriers to learning as possible. They are on doorsteps, in schools, and in living rooms advocating for our students and providing the educational and social-emotional support they need most. They provide real help in real time, making sure children are fed, clothed, and cared for, so they can learn and grow at Learning Club.
Volunteers are needed as tutors to work with children one-on-one, helping them with homework or other academic materials. No prior teaching experience is needed. The job of the tutor is not difficult but is very important. Tutors provide academic support, serve as good role models, and offer encouragement to students. Learning Club provides training and all the tools volunteers need to have an impact. Learning Club has tutoring options after school at six sites, each on different days of the week, and during the school day at local elementary schools.
