Lead to Read KC

Impact

Lead to Read KC’s mission is to support the social, emotional and reading skills that are foundational for student success by advancing their literacy platform and mobilizing community volunteers. Only 20% of third-grade students in Kansas City public and charter schools read proficiently, so Lead to Read needs your help.

Volunteer opportunities include becoming a Reading Mentor where volunteers will spend 30 minutes supporting students one-on-one once a week. This program works with 1st and 2nd graders to help them make larger gains in reading scores and sight word accuracy. This role also supports teachers, increases student enjoyment of reading and develop social skills.
