Lead to Read KC

Impact

Lead to Read KC’s mission is to support the social, emotional and reading skills that are foundational for student success by advancing their literacy platform and mobilizing community volunteers. Only 20% of third-grade students in Kansas City public and charter schools read proficiently, so Lead to Read needs your help.

Volunteer opportunities at Lead to Read KC include becoming a reading mentor from Sept. 2023 to April 2024. Volunteers read one-on-one in the classroom with the same student for 30 minutes each week. Reading Mentors volunteers are also able to partner with a friend or co-worker to share a student and alternate reading sessions, or become a “flextra” that attends as often as your schedule permits to read with a student whose weekly volunteer is absent. Lead to Read provides training and session includes on-site support.
