How Northpoint Development Gives Back to KC

NorthPoint Development is a Kansas City firm leading the charge on corporate volunteerism. Through programs like Uncover KC’s Corporate Cares program, companies like ND are staying in touch with communities and giving back through service projects.

And they’re not the only company: 60% of employers offer PTO for volunteering, and 40% of Fortune 500 companies have volunteer grant programs. Clearly, companies have a big interest in volunteering; but why? Let’s break down the reasons firms like NorthPoint Development invest in doing good.

Encouraging Professional Development

Getting a chance to work together on something outside the office gives employees the opportunity to work together in new ways. While there are lots of team building activities out there, volunteering is an especially great option because it’s a meaningful and community-oriented activity. This shared experience boosts team cohesion and strengthens work dynamics.

Through the Corporate Cares program, NorthPoint Development has tackled projects with many opportunities for team-building and communication, such as painting welcome home signs for transitional housing and completing food donation drives. And these experiences prove to be important for workers, who report improved communication skills and professional accountability.

PROMOTING A CONNECTED WORKFORCE

Did you know? According to Galaxy Digital, employees participating in company sponsored volunteer programs are five times more engaged at work than their peers.

Beyond giving participants an added sense of purpose, corporate volunteering programs also lead to more active, engaged employees.

One study showed that those who participated in volunteering experienced fewer negative emotions at work and felt more positive emotions.

NorthPoint Development’s volunteerism is a big part of their culture. Ranked as one of the best places to work in KC, employees there enjoy engaging in volunteer opportunities on a regular basis.

CREATING COMMUNITY IMPACT

When any group of people channel their efforts towards a common goal, the results are powerful. For nonprofits that rely on the hard work and generosity of volunteers, having a whole group of extra hands willing to help makes a massive difference. In one of their recent volunteer projects, NorthPoint Development leveraged the power of people to donate more than two cars’ worth of food items to A Turning Point.

“Our food pantry is serving over 4,500 people a month,” explains Cathy McIntire, Executive Director at A Turning Point. “When there are businesses, organizations, small mom and pops[…]— when they give of themselves, whether it’s financially, or through food drives or through clothing drives, it just shows the power of the community coming together.”
